MBS 5701 Research Questions

For Assignment 1 in Business Research Methods I hope to be conducting a series of interviews while on the expedition. The questions I propose to ask are as follows:

INTRODUCTION STATEMENT:
The way in which governments world-wide are managing their coastal resources is changing. Due to climate change, pollution, over-fishing, coastal development, habitat and biodiversity losses, and fragmentation (MA 2005), coastal eco-systems are critically threatened (McLeod & Leslie, 2009). The United Nations Environmental Programme (2006) report on marine and coastal ecosystems and human well-being called for a broader vision by governments, practitioners, scientists and citizens to consider the linkages between the coast’s and ocean’s long-term health and also human well-being. In order to understand the complexity of the Kimberley Marine Protected Areas (MPA) management challenges and opportunities facing the government of Western Australia, the following areas of inquiry need to be explored: Marine Protected Areas; Participatory Management; Stakeholder joint-management agreements (JMA), Ecosystems-Based Management; MPA Governance; and People, Position and Power.

RESEARCH QUESTIONS:

To assist with that inquiry, I seek your responses to the following questions:
1. How have you been involved with parks and protected area management?
2. What roles have you played in the development of joint-management agreements (JMA)?
3. What are your views on the value of JMA?
4. What are your views on the effectiveness of JMA?
5. Please tell me about any of your experiences and involvement with JMA.
6. Please tell me about any success stories or highlights that emerged from the creation of JMA.
7. Please tell me specifically about any challenges faced, or barriers found that impeded the creation and implementation of JMA?
8. If barriers were/are present what are your thoughts on how to overcome them?
9. If you could offer three suggestions for how a government agency should go about effectively engaging stakeholders in JMA, what would those three suggestions be?
10. In an ideal world, what is your view on how JMA should function?
11. Do you feel that JMA contribute to conservation efforts, and if so, to what degree do they contribute?
12. Have you noticed any gaps between stakeholder expectations and results in JMA?
13. What opportunities do you see existing for JMA?
14. What are your thoughts on how power should be shared in JMA?
15. What are your thoughts on building capacity for JMA?
16. Are there any other thoughts you would like to share about JMA?
