Geikie Gorge

This National Park has the awe inspiring gorge on the Fitzroy River. Located near Fitzrpy Crossing what is unique about this park is that during the wet season, most of the park infrastructure (roads, parking lots, gazebo) are under water when the river floods. So the park staff have to be creative in managing this park

We went on a river cruise with AJ, his family, and some park rangers and staff. AJ gave an incredible interpretation on the geology of the gorge, the history of the aboriginal inhabitants and the cultural significance of the land.

We saw crocodiles on the shore and got a real treat when a baby croc swan up to te boat and the ranger grabbed it for a closer look. See photo below of Cyd with it.

We watched the sun set and lingered on the river until after dark, enjoying great conversation and nibbles. It was  magic place to be in the gorge in the dark, and looking at the stars and the moon light reflection of the rock walls in the mirror-still river.
